At 0133 hrs, Company 70 was dispatched to Route 625 between Church Road and
Looking Glass Lane for a reported vehicle fire after a motor vehicle collision.
Engine 70 responded with a crew of 3 volunteers. Assistant 70 (J. Lutz)
arrived on location and reported 1 vehicle on its side, fully involved with all
parties extricated prior to his arrival. Engine 70 arrived on location and
extinguished the fire. Crews stood by and provided lighting for Cumru Police
Department to complete their investigation. Crews assisted tow company with
vehicle removal. Units cleared the scene at 0250 hrs.
At 1300 hrs, Companies 70, 67(Shillington FD), and 69(Kenhorst FD) were
dispatched to Summit Avenue for smoke in the structure, possible chimney fire.
Tower Ladder 70 and Deputy 70 (L. Hoffert) arrived on location with nothing
showing from the exterior and crews would be investigating. Crews investigated
and found a light smoke haze which was found to be caused by a down draft from
high wind conditions. The structure was ventilated and units cleared the scene
at 1401 hrs.
At 1138 hrs, Company 70 with Companies 42(Cedar Top FD) and 69(Kenhorst FD)
were dispatched to 5 Commerce Dr. (Morton Powder Coating) for a fire alarm.
After a walk through with a Thermal Imaging Camera no cause for the fire alarm
was found The fire alarm was restored and the units cleared the scene at
1222hrs.
At 1348 hrs, Company 70 was dispatched to Route 724 and Valley Stream for an
motor vehicle collision with injuries assisting SBREMS (Southern Berks EMS).
Squad 70 arrived on location and assisted with patient care and cleaned up
debris from the roadway. Units cleared the scene at 1420 hrs.
At 1510 hrs, Company 70 was dispatched to Route 422 eastbound just west of
Interstate 176 to assist SBREMS (Southern Berks EMS) with a cardiac arrest in a
Kutztown Ambulance wheelchair van. Squad 70 arrived on location and assisted
with packaging of pt. for transport. Lt.70-A (M.Carl) drove Medic 685 to Reading
Hospital and Medical Center while EMS providers were working on the patient in
the back of the unit. Units cleared the scene at 1551 hrs.
At 1658 hrs, Company 70 was dispatched to Bare Ave. for a possible brush fire.
Deputy 70 (L. Hoffert) arrived on location reporting a illegal control burn that
need to be extinguished. Engine 70 and Brush 70-1 made the normal flow response
with a total of 7 volunteers. Crews assisted homeowner with extinguishment of
fire and cleared the scene at 1746 hrs.
At 2038 hrs, while members were at weekly training, Companies 70, 69 (Kenhorst
FD) and 67 (Shillington FD) were dispatched to Summit Ave. for a reported
structure fire. Deputy 70 (L. Hoffert) went en route and received an additional
from BCCC (Berks County Communication Center) reporting the living room on fire.
While en route, BCCC advised Cumru Police Department was on location reporting
flames showing from the front of the building. Deputy 70 upgraded the assignment
on that report bring Co 56 (Gouglersville FD) for a Rapid Intervention Team and
SBREMS (Southern Berks EMS) for stand by to the scene. Deputy 70 arrived on the
scene reporting heavy fire from the front first floor of the house and requested
the first alarm assignment to be dispatched bring Companies 42 (Cedar Top FD) and
Co. 64 (West Reading FD) to the scene. Engine 69-1 arrived on location first and
stretched the first 1 3/4" hose line to extinguish the fire after crews forced
entry. A search of the house reveled no victims. Crews were on scene checking
for extension, overhauling and ventilating the house. The last Company 70 unit
cleared the scene @ 2252hrs.
