Welcome to the website of the Grill Volunteer Fire Company. Please take this opportunity to familiarize yourself with our company and return frequently to view news and upcoming events. The Grill Volunteer Fire Company is a 100% volunteer fire company located in Cumru Township, Berks County. The fire company provides emergency and non-emergency fire and rescue services with its volunteer staff of roughly 25 volunteers 365 days a year. The fire company also responds to calls for assistance through mutual aid agreements in Kenhorst, Mohnton, Shillington Boroughs, Brecknock, Robeson and Exeter Townships and elsewhere as needed.

Fully Involved Vehicle Fire In Flying Hills (11/30/07)

AT 1134 hrs, Co 70 was dispatched to 30 Tanglewood Dr in Flying Hills for a reported vehicle fire. E-70 made the response with a crew of 5 with 70-11 (L. Hoffert) on board. While en route, FC34(Chief of Fire services S. Brady) arrived on location reporting a "well-off" vehicle approx. 30' from a townhouse unit. E70 arrived on location and a packed crew went into service with a 100' of 1 3/4" wet bumper line. Crews extinguished the fire with no extension noted to the building. All units cleared the scene @ 1236.




AT 1138hrs, Co70 with Co's 42(Cedar Top FD) and 69(Kenhorst FD) were dispatched to 5 Commerce Dr. (Morton Powder Coating) for a fire alarm...

AT 1348hrs, Co 70 was dispatched to Rt. 724 and Valley Stream for an MVC with injuries...

AT 1510hrs, Co 70 was dispatched to Rt 422 eastbound...

AT 1658hrs, Co 70 was dispatched to 17 Bare Ave. for a possible brush fire...

AT 2038hrs, while members were at weekly training, Co 70, 69 (Kenhorst FD) and 67 (Shillington FD) were dispatched to 315 Summit Ave. for a reported structure fire...







Possible Chimney Fire in Cumru (11/16/07)

At 1300hrs, companies 70, 67(Shillington FD), and 69(Kenhorst FD) were dispatched to 507 Summit Avenue for smoke in the structure, possible chimney fire. TL70 and Deputy 70 (L. Hoffert) arrived on location with nothing showing from the exterior and crews would be investigating. Packed crews entered the structure to find a light haze in the dwelling. Crews used TIC to check the building and found no cause for the smoke condition. Smoke may have possibly come from the wood stove in the basement. TL70 went into service, checked the chimney, and found it well cleaned with no signs of fire. Crews determined smoke to be from down draft cause by high wind conditions. PPV used to ventilate the structure and building metered to check for CO. Zero PPM of CO found in the structure, no need for any further fire services. Units cleared the scene at 1401hrs.




Vehicle Fire After MVC on Route 625 (11/08/07)

At 0133hrs, Co 70 was dispatched to Rt. 625 between Church Rd and Looking Glass Ln. for a reported vehicle fire after a MVC. E70 went en route with a crew of 3 and received an additional from BCCC (Berks County Communications Center) stating 1 vehicle on its side, now possibly on fire.....














Sharon Hill LODD (9/30/07)

SHARON HILL - The Officers and Members of the Sharon Hill and Holmes fire companies regret to announce the death of Michael Reagan, due to injuries sustained from a building collapse at a fire on Wednesday.....






Bicycle Accident (9/25/2007)

Co 70 was dispatched with SBREMS for a bicycle accident with injuries, one male reported to be down an embankment. 70-10 arrived on location to find patient care underway by bystanders and relayed patient information to EMS (teenage male with a head injury). S-70 arrived and began patient care until EMS arrived on location. Crews assisted EMS with backboarding the patient. The patient was taken to the Reading Hospital Trauma Center. No other services required.







Industrial Accident on Beaver Club Lane (9-22-07)

Company 70 was dispatched to the Western Berks Landfill at Route 176 and Rt 10 for a dump truck overturned with the male opperator still inside. S-70 and FC 34 arrived on location to find the dump truck on its passenger side with the male driver standing inside of the vehicle. Crews removed windshield and male was self extricated stating he was uninuired. SBREMS handled a patient evaluation and no further fire services were required. Western Berks Landfill handled the uprighting of the vehicle internally.













Route 724 & Mountain View Rd MVA (9/22/07)

Co 70 was dispatched to Rt 724 and Mt. View Road for a Motor Vehicle Collision with injuries. Command 70 and 70-11 arrived on location to find a female driver that was unconscious behind the wheel. S-70 arrived and cribbed vehicle and assisted SBREMS with a LSB extrication. Fire department personnel drove the EMS unit while both MICU providers provided patient care. Patient was taken to Reading Hospital Trauma Center as a Trauma Alert patient. Fire personnel remained on the scene to control fluids on the roadway and assist the tow company with removal of the vehicle.













Dumpster Fire (9/20/07)

Co 70 was dispatched for a reported dumpster fire to the rear of Flying Hill Fitness center. Caller from I176 stated he could see a dumpster with flames coming out of the top. E70 arrived on location and repoted a fully involved 5 yard dumpster. A packed crew stretched an 1 3/4" line and extinguished the fire.

CO 70 69 AND 67 WERE dispatched to the above location for a reported kitchen fire. 56-10, who was in the area, went on location with smoke showing from the "c" side of the dwelling. FC34 upgraded the assignment to a working fire and added ...........




Co 70 and E67 were dispatched to Rt 10 and Mountain View road for a MVC with multiple people entrapped. FC 34 arrived on location to find SBREMS on location attempting patient contact. Found one vehicle on its side with 3 people confined to the vehicle with minor injuries. S-70 arrived on location and stabilized vehicle with 2 rescue struts and cribbing. Hurst Maverick tool and Sawzalls were utilized to remove the roof of the vehicle. All three occupants were transported to Reading Hospital Trauma Center for minor injuries.
