| Two Accidents with Serious Injuries within hours on 422 |

At 0717hrs Berks Radio dispatched Co. 70, Rescue 25 (Exeter Township Fire) and Rescue/Engine 36 (Shillington Fire) to Rt. 422 Eastbound at the I-176 off ramp for a motor vehicle accident with roll over and entrapment. FC34 (Chief of Cumru Fire S. Brady) went enroute and was advised by Berks Radio of a 2 car MVA with a male subject trapped in his overturned vehicle. R-25 arrived on location and confirmed 1 vehicle overturned with the driver trapped inside of the vehicle. R-25's crew went into service stabilizing the vehicle and asisting EMS with the extrication. E-56 (Cumru Twp. Career Firefighters) arrived on location and assisted 25 crews with removing the pt. as well as fluid control. FC34 established Rt. 422 command and recalled R/E 36 due to the pt. being extricated already. The male driver was transported to Reading Hospital and Trauma Center with severe injuries by Southern Berks EMS. Multiple fire police units closed 422 eastbound while Cumru PD did their accident investigation. All fire units with the exception of fire police cleared the scene by 1100hrs.
While Fire Police still had eastbound 422 shut for the invesigation, Berks Radio dispatched Co. 70 and R-25 to the westbound lanes of Rt 422 for an accident with multiple injuries and ejection at 1109hrs. Chief 70 (L. Hoffert) went ernoute and was advised by Berks Radio the Cumru PD called in a second accident that was involving a mini-van and the driver was ejected from the vehicle. Chief 70 arrived on location and assumed Rt 422 Command. Chief 70 found Southern Berks EMS already on location packaging the ejected driver and loading them into the ambulance. R-25 arrived on location and began to contain fluids. U-70 arrived on location and assisted the 25 units with fluid mitigation. Southern Berks EMS again transported the driver to Reading Hospital and Trauma Center with severe injuries. All fire units cleared, with the exception of Fire Police, cleared the 2nd wreck by 1200hrs.
