At 1845hrs. T/L70, E/T70 and U70 went to the Berks County Training Center with 12 volunteers to participate in the bi-weekly Cumru Township drill with Co. 42 (Cedar Top) and Gouglersville (56). Crew were divided into 3 man crews to review hose line management, hydrant hook-up and hose appliances. Crews were required to advance an 1 3/4" hose line to the 2nd and 3rd floors of the drill tower and flow water out the rear of the building. Crews reviewed advancing lines up stair towers, hose line management, and teamwork. While 2 crews were moving hand lines, the 3rd crew supplied E56-1 (Gouglersville) the attack engine via 300' of 5" supply line utilizing a HUMAT valve hooked to a hydrant. The 3rd crew reviewed hooking the HUMAT valve up to the hydrant as well as the proper way to "boost" the pressure to the supply line using the HUMAT valve with a 2nd Engine. The 4th group reviewed different types of nozzles, adapters, manifolds, etc. and explained there uses as well as why to pick one over the other for different scenarios.
While members were training, Berks Radio alerted the company for a vehicle accident in the Flying Hills section of Cumru Township. Chief 70 (L. Hoffert) and E/T 70 immediately went en route with 4 volunteers and advised by Berks Radio that the Cumru Police Department requested 1 engine to the scene of an overturned vehicle that was leaking fluids and to standby until the tow company up righted the vehicle. E/T70 and Chief 70 arrived on the scene to find 1 small 2 door coupe on it's roof with the sole occupant already in the back of Southern Berks's EMS unit. Crew went to work applying oil dry to the affected roadway, securing the battery and begin debris removal. Once the tow company up righted the vehicle and removed it from the roadway, E/T 70 was available and returned to the Berks County Training Center to finish the drill for the night.
